Columbia Annex Release Meaning

Columbia Correctional Institution Annex is an FDC state-prison annex east of Lake City. It is listed separately because it is a distinct custody unit, yet the public release record is statewide. A person may leave the Annex for the main Columbia institution, the associated work camp, Lake City Bridge Community Release Center, or another FDC institution. None of those moves alone proves final discharge.

A true release can occur at sentence expiration or through a legally applicable supervised release type. Some people then appear in FDC's Supervised Population records. Others reach the end of the prison sentence with no qualifying FDC community supervision. The release detail should show the date and status, while a supervision result identifies a later control period. Checking both avoids calling physical release the end of every legal obligation.

Confirm Columbia Annex Discharge

Begin at the FDC Offender Search menu. Its status-specific databases are central to an Annex check. Population Information shows current FDC custody. Inmate Release Information shows people who were released or are scheduled for release. Supervised Population shows qualifying state supervision after release. Absconder/Fugitive is reserved for those who stopped making themselves available for supervision and is not a discharge label.

A useful lookup proceeds in this order:

1. Use the DC number in the Inmate Release Information Search when it is known.
2. For a name search, enter last and first name, check the alias option, and compare more than the photograph.
3. Open the detail and match DC number, birth information, offenses, dates, and the release-status wording.
4. Check the Population search if the person may still be held at another FDC unit.
5. Run the Supervised Population search to identify qualifying supervision after physical release.

Columbia Annex Transfer Warnings

An older audit used the administrative phrase “Immigration Release Center for Region II.” That historic label is not proof that the Annex is a current ICE detention facility or operates under an ICE contract. The Facility Map and current sources identify an FDC state-prison annex. Repeating the old phrase without its limits could send a search into the wrong federal system.

Use ICE's locator only when a current record identifies an immigration handoff. Likewise, use BOP only when federal custody is supported by a federal judgment or transfer trail. An Annex departure with another FDC facility listed should stay in the state population search. A transfer to Lake City Bridge is still an FDC community-release placement, not unconditional discharge.

Note: A historic facility label should never override current operator, custody, and public-record evidence.

Columbia Annex Date Records

A current FDC detail may show a Current Release Date. Florida law calls the gain-time projection a tentative release date. That date is useful for planning, but it can change. Eligible gain time may be earned, withheld, forfeited, or restored. Court orders, sentence structure, detainers, mandatory minimums, or later calculation changes can also affect the result.

For many post-1995 offenses, Florida's incentive gain-time rules cannot reduce actual service below 85 percent of the imposed sentence, with qualifying jail credit counted as the statute provides. Eligibility depends on the offense and sentence. Do not infer completed discharge because the projected date has arrived. Open the release detail or ask FDC Admission and Release whether the event was processed.

The public detail and the sentence record answer different parts of the question. FDC calculates the date. The court order sets the sentence terms that the agency applies.

Columbia Annex Record Requests

If the public databases leave an ambiguity, ask FDC for an existing release or discharge record. Include the booked or committed name, date of birth, DC number, approximate dates, and the Annex as the known placement. Request the date and type of release, relevant incarceration history, and digitized inmate photograph if it serves the identity check. Protected medical, victim, witness, and safety information may be withheld or redacted.

The FDC Public Records Center is the official fallback when the public search does not resolve a date, type, or facility movement. Florida public-record law calls for prompt acknowledgement and a good-faith response. Narrow scope reduces routing problems and helps the custodian identify the existing record.

Columbia County Custody Types

The Annex sits within a county that contains several very different corrections settings. Columbia County Detention Facility is a sheriff jail with CCSO release paperwork. Columbia CI and the Annex are FDC prisons. Columbia Work Camp is tied to the same state complex. Lake City Correctional Facility is privately operated but holds Florida prisoners under FDC authority. Lake City Bridge is a contract community release center where FDC custody can continue during community movement.

This range is more than local color. It determines where the release record lives. The county jail points to CCSO and the Clerk. Every FDC unit points first to the statewide population, release, and supervision searches. The private or contract operator does not replace FDC as the legal release-record source. A federal or immigration search is justified only by an actual handoff, not by an outdated facility phrase.

FDC's monthly OBIS released-person files offer a deeper historical option for releases since October 1, 1997. They can include identity, aliases, release dates, facility descriptions, offenses, detainers, and incarceration history. Sealed, expunged, and confidential data is excluded. For a named, recent Annex case, the nightly public release search remains the practical first step.

A dated Annex entry in incarceration history does not show present custody by itself. Compare its receipt and release dates with the newest population result. Next, check for a completed statewide release entry and any later supervision record. If the timeline jumps from the Annex to another institution, that is evidence of transfer unless FDC separately records discharge.

This date-by-date method also keeps the older immigration wording in context. Only a current record that identifies ICE custody justifies moving to ICE's locator. The historic Annex phrase alone does not establish a federal handoff, present contract, or immigration release.

An older FDC record may name the Annex even after a later movement. Read the receipt date, facility description, release flag, and incarceration history in sequence. It can preserve aliases, prior prison offenses, detainers, and facility movements that clarify why the Annex appears in an older record.

A detainer entry shows another authority's recorded interest at that time. It does not prove that the hold remained active or that it was executed when the person left the Annex. When the destination is unclear, request the final movement or discharge record from FDC. That record can separate a transfer to the main Columbia institution, a community-release placement, and a completed state-prison discharge.
